ruins of the Mayan civilization. Cenotes (limestone sinkholes)
are an abundant phenomena in the Riviera Maya and the Yucatan
Peninsula. Visit Dolphin Discovery in Puerto Aventuras,
located a short drive distance South of Playa del Carmen.
Xel-Ha, once a harbor for the ancient Maya, is now one of
the most wonderful ecological and recreational parks. Tulum
is the most important archeological site on Mexico´s
Caribbean coast. Xcaret, known as Nature´s sacred
paradise, is an eco-archaeological park in the Riviera Maya,
a few kilometers South of Playa del Carmen.

south to fascinating Riviera Maya, with its unspoiled pristine
beaches, tropical jungles and ancient Mayan ruins. Snorkel
in crystal clear turquoise waters. Enjoy the best values
under the sun as a vast array of fabulous new all-inclusive
resorts. Also known as the Cancun Tulum corridor, this nearby
area of lush, natural coastline from Cancun south to Tulum
is home to several attractions that should not be missed
on a Cancun vacation. The 100 km stretch known as the Riviera
Maya is in the middle of the northern coast of the Yucatan
Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. Here the towns are
smaller and there are fewer tourists with miles of solitary
virgin beaches, sparkling white sand and crystalline turquoise
waters. The second largest reef system in the world, the
Great Maya Reef, runs along the coastline and an unrestrained
jungle surrounds the towns and beaches. In this part of
the Mexican Caribbean full of exotic tropical animals peering
or flying through the branches, there are many places to
explore. A unique and complex underground river system flows
beneath the surface and visitors with magical caverns, caves
and cenotes (sinkholes). There are also hundreds of archaeological
sites, remnants of the incredible and timeless Mayan civilization,
and a spectacular and plentiful marine life.
The second largest reef in the world is located in Playa
del Carmen (the Mayan Riviera), and the Yucatan Peninsula
also offers cavern diving to those who have their Open Water
certification. The Riviera del Sol Hotel is Playa del Carmen's
hidden gem. The hotel's spacious rooms all face out onto
the the pool's waterfall and the blue Mexican Caribbean
water.
At night you can see the lights of Cozumel island across
the water, during the day lounge by the pool or walk the
quick one block path to Playa del Carmen's white sand beach.
All of the Riviera del Sol's large hotel rooms have air
conditioning (rare in Playa del Carmen), telephone and mini
bar. Hotel rooms with kitchenettes and two room suites are
also available.
Hotel rooms face onto the Riviera del Sol Hotel pool. A
sparkling waterfall flows down into the 7 foot deep (1.5
meters) pool, surrounded by lounge chairs and tropical plants.
The large palm thatched palapa roof covers the hotel's common
area. Guests can enjoy the lounge area and lending library
together. The Riviera del Sol Restaurant serves a Mexican
buffet breakfast every morning. The hotel is conveniently
located on a quiet section of Playa del Carmen's famous
Quinta Avenida pedestrian shopping street. All upper story
rooms have ocean views, and the beach is a 2 minute walk
down a quiet path. With Riviera del Sol, you stay close
to the action, without hearing street noise as you sleep.
The Riviera del Sol Hotel is owned and run by a family living
right in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The owners are on the
premises daily and add their personal touch while managing
the hotel. Families are welcome at the Riviera del Sol Hotel.
Several two room suites with a king and two double beds
are available to accommodate larger family groups. A shallow,
scalloped shaped pool is connected to the main pool for
children to enjoy.
Some of the beach hotels operate with solar power, the nights
are lit with candles and oil lamps, the lack of ambient
light creates a heavenly feeling. It is a wonderfully romantic
place but you do not have to be with a significant other
to enjoy it. Many of the beachfront hotels also have a restaurant
on their grounds. For example, Zamas hotel & restaurant
has excellent food...the kind of place we stop even if we
are just in Tulum for the day. This restaurant also has
a beautiful view on the beach, day or night. Tulum, Riviera
Maya Mexico ... a truly enchanting place to relax.
